‘There is a new sun, everyday, a ball of fire’
‘Reading these textiles entails an entanglement of different sensory modes. These tangible landscapes might not be verbal but can be read if you look closely to the codes embedded in the interwoven structure. A reminder that thread is one of the earliest forms of language.
These monolithic forms quiet yet dominant become a platform for a fantasy landscape and at the same time an escape voyage, a connection with the self, a rest place for a hidden force, a fantasy that resonates with intuition evoking a mystery that you only find in nature.
The viewer is invited to explore these woven landscapes- a counterplay of forms. A visual Atlas.
A collection of Hi Tek yarn, photoluminescent and reflective become a site of paradox filled with haptic and optical complexity. The tactile qualities of the fibre, a sheer luminescence are partially captured in a single gaze using flash photography in day light or encountering the landscapes at night energized by the ultra violet and blue light wavelength energy set in the space.
Emitting landscapes, luminous and striking at night, a metamorphosis unfolds grasping a metaphorical presence. Reflective with an opaqueness transmission of light when struck by artificial flashlight and at the same time sombre and nocturnal while light is restricted from it.
The quality of these yarns embodies the grid in its very structure of warp and weft, end together along with the cotton that remains unaffected throughout any interference in artificial light. A play of gradiations of dark through light through the combed heavy tassels.
The viewer explores in space the reverse side of the vertical mindscapes where the woven plane is revealed. The mapping of the threads is visible, revealing the handmade process, resembling a geometric pattern, a controlled formulation.
The flat reflective tape yarn used originally for the industry, now woven next to a fundamental fibre, cotton, allows its genre-specific characteristics to emit light. Heavily woven, gravity and tension disappear when amplified at night.
The impression of height and width is characterized by gaiety, somberness, of monumentality within a strict framework. An instrumentation of the state of mind is the work of clarification, of controlled formulation.
