My artistic practise begins from a thorough study to explore the fabric’s structure, explore its full complexity.
I create fabric narratives through hand-weaving. The stronger the technical knowledge and foundations allow me to deliver a form of communication in the absence of a written language.
The studio becomes a textile laboratory and the loom is the tool that enables to experiment and translate these qualities into a personal language evoking a tactile sensibility.
Weaving becomes a form of active translation, an intrepretation, a code of communication that consolidates a feeling, a kryptogram. It is a correspondence between weaving and writing, similar practises or operations, binding threads, stringing together words into text to create a personal ‘lexicon’.
The textile installations that unravel follow the notations of this lexicon through deconstructed weaving codes.
The weaving process and its meditative aspect are important as reading these works which entail an entanglement of different sensory modes.
Part of my practise is also the creation of a digital archive library of over 2000 samples reflecting the studio’s extensive research work for over two decades celebrating the process and technique as woven fabrics form their own identity.
